Things were really KICKIN at KSP Saturday Night! Yes Siree! The SST Sprints were in the house and they were ready to rumble on KSPs ¼ mile clay oval! Smiley even brought along the Two Seater Sprint Car and gave a couple of folks a ride! Yep! The first one you might recognize! They drew a number for one lucky fan to win a ride in the car and guess who that was! It was none other than Chase Neill! How about that! Chase hasn’t been racing lately, so I bet it really felt good to go fast, even if he wasn’t driving! But he wasn’t the only one to take a tour around the track in that double seater! No Sir! Sandy Lyons got her chance to fly around the track at break neck speed! She was thrilled by the experience and I bet she’s still wearing that smile! Cody Whitworth Dominates in SST Sprint Feature! Cody Whitworth was fast right out of the trailer in Sprint Series of Texas Racing Action! He won his Heat and led every lap of the Feature in a dominating performance here tonight! With 29 cars in the pits, it took 4 heats and 2 B-Mains to settle the starting field for their Feature Event! Once all of that action was done, 20 of the top qualifiers lined up and got busy with the business at hand once the green flag waved! Cody Whitworth took the lead on the first lap and never faced a serious challenge by anyone, even with 3 cautions that helped to keep the field together! Whitworth took the win with Ryan Beechler and David Garland rounding out the top 3! Eric Winnett Racks Up Another Win in Crate Models! Eric Winnett has sure been on fire this season in the Crate Late Model Action! With 7 Feature wins to his credit already this year, I think it’s safe to say, “He’s Dominating”! Eric has certainly mastered the setup on that Full Bodied Beast and sure makes it look easy as he takes Checkered Flag after Checkered Flag! OH, you can be sure that he has to work for those victories though! Yes, John and Justin McNeil have denied him wins as has Ronnie Davis! But, Eric keeps on coming and has amassed a pretty impressive list of wins doing it! He wins tonight over Charlie Wilson, (who don’t need no stinking nose piece), Justin McNeil, Charles Armstrong III and Charles Armstrong Jr. “Teryn It Up” Pritchett Wins in Junior Mini Stock Action! Teryn Pritchett continues to give the Boyz fits in Junior Mini Stock Action! This young female Hot Shot, who already has a National Title in Moto Cross Racing, is becoming quite a threat in the world of Junior Auto Racing! The way she’s going now, I look for her to really make her mark in the sport as she gets older! Danika better LOOK OUT! David Cook Effects Last Lap Pass to Win in Street Stock Feature! Wes Milliorn started 2nd row outside in the Street Stock Feature, but didn’t stay there long! No, he was leading by the time the field made it from the drop of the green back around to log the first lap! Yes Sir! He had that 07 Street Stock Cookin as he blasted thru the turns and down the straights, leaving the horde behind him to fight for 2nd place! Ryan Powers gives him a good chase for the first 3 laps, but drops off the charts after a restart from a caution on lap 4! I think he had a flat… That turned John Riechard loose on Milliorn as they continued to lead the pack around the circle! Riechard gave Milliorn fits for several laps, even running door to door with him a couple of times as they ran toward the end. But inside of 5 to go, Riechard turns up the heat and gets under Milliorn to battle door to door on lap 17! Riechard gets clear of Milliorn on the white flag lap, leaving him to deal with the onslaught of David Cook! It looks like Riechard is going to get the win as they enter Turn 4 heading for the checkers, but Cook, who’s gotten past Milliorn, shoots past Riechard as they thunder out of Turn 4 and head for the checkers! Cook wins it by a nose, snatching the win right out of Riechards hands as they cross the finish line! WOW! What a finish! That was one heck of a race! Dean Abbey, Mike Golightly and Milliorn round out the top 5! Keith White Continues to Dominate in IMCA Modified Action! Darryl Campbell had to do major reconstructive surgery to his car after being involved in a crash a couple of weeks back! But he’s back and is sporting a totally different color scheme than what we’re used to seeing him run! He stumbled on some “Rat Rod Gray” aluminum to make his door panels with and the new look is AWESOME! The only orange to be found on the #83 Destroyer Modified is in the number! It shows up real good over that Rat Rod Gray! Bob said they thought they’d try a different color to try and change their luck! Things haven’t gone too good for the team this season and they’re lookin for something, anything to turn things around! Well, maybe things are lookin up…. Just maybe! Darryl started on the outside front row and led the first 15 laps! Yes, and he even had some ground on the second place car of Robert McKinney until a caution brought the field back together! Trouble was, the fire shooting out his headers as the laps wore on indicated that a recurrent problem still hasn’t been solved! Seems the longer he runs, the slower the car gets! Well, back to back cautions and a lot of pace laps gave his motor a chance to recover, but it also allowed Keith White to close in like a big cat stalking a buck! Yes, he was there, setting in 2nd right behind Darryl with Chris Bragg right behind him! When they finally got everything cleared and the race got back under way, White and Bragg went to work on Darryl as they headed down the frontstretch! White goes inside as Bragg flies to the outside and they swallow him up as the head into Turn 2! They’re inside of 5 to go at this point and things get real interesting as they rip off the last few laps! Fowler joins the fracas and slides into 3rd on lap 18! White has the lead well in hand as Bragg and Fowler chase him toward the checkers, but Darryl is besieged by Clayton Thompson and Chad Melton who shuffle him back to 6th on the last lap! Well, Darryl had the car good for 15 of those 20 laps! That’s better than it’s been, so they’ll take what they got and go back to work and see if they can find 5 more laps in it! Something tells me they will! Uh Oh! There’s a car stopped on the front stretch! Ricky’s walking over to it! Is it… are they… will they… they’re talkin and the driver is handing Ricky something out the window…. what is it? He turns and slowly walks over to the 24 of Chris Bragg… A short discussion ensues and Chris is evidently not pleased… It looks like a claim! When the wreckers hooked onto both cars and pulled them to the infield, we knew! Robert McKinney had claimed Chris Bragg’s motor! Duain Pritchett Wins The I-Stock Feature… In Kirk Martin’s Car! IMCA Stock Car action was Fast and Furious tonight! Robert Ferron started on the outside front row and grabbed the lead from polesitter Rodney Franklin on the first lap! In fact, Rodney was swallowed by several cars as they blasted down the backstretch on that first lap! Dennis Bissonnette, Damon Hammond, Daniel Parker and Kirk… no, wait…. Duain Pritchett fell in behind Ferron as they crossed the line for the first lap! Yeah, that’s right! The car is Kirk Martin’s, but the driver is Duain Pritchett! So, what brought that about? Well, you see, Duain lost his motor last night at Boyd and, being 2nd in National Point Standings, he needed to have a car in the worst way to keep his point average up! That’s where Kirk Martin steps in! Kirk offered Duain the car and Voila! Now you know what’s going on! Back to the race; Ferron continues to lead as Bissonnette and Parker battle 2 wide just behind him! Parker is runnin the outside and gets by Bissonnette on lap 7 leaving him to deal with Pritchett! Parker goes to work on Ferron as Pritchett puts a move on Bissonnette for 3rd! Ferron and Parker are locked in a desperate battle for the lead when Pritchett blows by them on the inside and goes to the lead on lap 8! I’m sure they’re surprised at the move, but all they can do is settle their skirmish for real estate and set out after him! Parker gets clear of Ferron and goes to work on Pritchett! They’re door to door on lap 10, but Pritchett prevails and holds onto the lead! Parker cools his jets and prepares for an all out assault toward the end! With 2 to go, Parker makes his move out of Turn 2 and pulls alongside Pritchett as they tear off down the backstretch! That bottom is the better place to be though, and Pritchett holds on to win over Parker, Bissonnette, Ferron and Michael Smith! Keith White Adds To His Points Lead With Southern Sport Mod Win! Keith White is leading the point race in the IMCA Southern Sport Mod Division! This will be the last opportunity to win a National, or Regional Title in both the Modified and Sport Mod Divisions! Next year, a driver won’t be able to run in both divisions. That means that every win Keith gets puts him closer to that coveted “Double Dip” for the National Championship race! Well, he added more points to his total with another win in tonight’s Sport Mod Feature! He started back in 8th, but was up to 2nd by lap 5, setting his sights on Terry Pritchett who held the lead! Keith started checkin out once he got to the front, but the race for 2nd place was a good one! Tom Earl worked his way up to Pritchett by lap 9 and went to work on him for 2nd, finally getting around him with 3 to go! Earl went on to finish 2nd with Pritchett, Burgess and Dean Abbey rounding out the top 5. I also want to mention the debut of Zac Sydney’s IMCA Southern Sport Mod! He had his great lookin #2Z in the pits here this weekend and looked real good out on the track! Zac’s been a rocket this year in his Mini Stock at Boyd, dealing the seasoned veterans lots of grief with his consistent top 2 finishes! I look forward to seeing him get comfortable in the Sport Mod and competing in that class! Montgomery’s Top The Field in IMCA Hobby Stock Action! IMCA Hobby Stock Action was a story about the Cousins Montgomery, a Matt Drottz Race Car and their run for Victory Lane! It begins with Jeremy Montgomery starting 6th and Allen starting 7th in the Hobby Stock Feature. Polesitter Kevin Rutherford leads this one as it gets underway and stays on point for the 1st five laps. After that, Allen Montgomery gets by him to take over the lead on lap 6. Now Allen was in 2nd on the 2nd lap, so it was evident he was fast right from the start! He’s fresh off of 3 straight Friday Night wins, so one might expect him to get another one here tonight! And, for the next 10 laps, there wasn’t really any reason to think otherwise. His Cousin Jeremy didn’t get the start that Allen did and when lap 12 rolled around, he was only up to 5th. All in all, not too bad a run if he’d finished there! But, that was not to be the case! It looked like he found another gear on lap 13 when he jumped to 3rd around Rutherford and Joey Patterson! Rick Barrett stood between him and that 38 car of his Cousin Allen! He went to work on Barrett and got around him on lap 16! He didn’t stop there though! No sir! He stayed in the gas and put Allen down too, all in one lap! He stayed in the gas and started pulling away from Allen after that, going on to win in the Matt Drottz “HDC” Race Car, his first trip to Victory Lane since he debuted the car earlier this year! Allen came home in 2nd ahead of Jeff Kinnaird, Rick Barrett and Joey Patterso |
